The Bottom Line

John
Konvalinka is a professional genealogist and lecturer who has been
actively involved in genealogy for 30 years and has a teaching and speaking
career spanning almost 40 years. He is particularly interested in the
effective use of computers and the Internet in supporting (not replacing)
traditional genealogical research. He has worked with the Internet since the
1980s and with computers since 1955, first as a U.S. Navy pilot and then in
two successful, computer-related careers in business -- as a partner of Accenture, Ltd. and as Chief Information Officer of Comcast Corporation.
|
|
He is a trustee of the Genealogical
Society of New Jersey
and co-leader
of the NGS’ Britain-Ireland Forum. He teaches genealogy courses at Rutgers
University Academy for Lifelong Learning and at the Princeton Adult School.
In his genealogy researches, he has worked
extensively in the British Library, the Library of Congress, the New York Public Library, and
other major genealogical libraries, as well as in the Public
Record Office and Society of Genealogists (London) and the (U.S.)
National Archives, the New York City and New Jersey State Archives,
and the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society. |
|
In addition to his recent speaking
engagements, he has served on the Planning Committee member and
publicity chair for several national and regional genealogical conferences. |

New topics developed on request
Based on my years of experience with computers and the Internet, (as
well as my years of genealogical experience) I am prepared to offer
presentations on any computer related topic which might be useful to
genealogists: hardware (including new devices), software, and/or the
Internet. In any such presentation, I always stress the themes reflected
above – that computer based resources are not a substitute for
repository research, but tools which can be used very successfully – as
finding aids – in conjunction with traditional genealogical research.
